Along with Gnosis and Spiritual Evolution and Transformation, Empathy is the third element of an Integral Spirituality.
Beyond narcissistic ego-projection, there are several levels of empathy, pertaining to the human realm, the universal brotherhood of man, to nature or the environment, and, the highest of all, to all sentient beings regardless of species (sentientism). Nevertheless, all three spheres of empathy are necessary for a viable postmaterialistic consciousness and society.
note: the above represents a simplistic linear interpretation only; in fact all these stages interact and overlap. Rarely do all these levels develop at the same time, and the Integral/Divine Realization encompasses all of them.
